PW2021 Adult #06: ALL HER WISHES (Fantasy – Fairytale Retelling / #OwnVoices – Neurodiversity)
Mentee:
Aimee Davis
Mentored by:
Rochelle Karina
Book Title:
ALL HER WISHES
Category:
Adult
Genre:
Fantasy - Fairytale Retelling / #OwnVoices - Neurodiversity
Word Count:
91,000

Pitch:

Twenty-something Fairy Godmother Isabelle Fortier hates her job. Give her a sketchbook and shoes over a wand any day. Iz must prove she doesn't suck at Godmothering to keep the villain—her infuriatingly sexy ex—from turning her best friend into an evil queen. Sounds simple. But in this fairytale gone wrong, Happily Ever After is never what you think.

For fans of Marissa Meyer and Once Upon a Time.

Excerpt:

Oh, how Isabelle hated this job. Her best friend Collette was the better Godmother, true, but Isabelle could’ve made their Godchild’s horribly boring shoes with her wand tied behind her back.

She’d made better without a wand.

“I can feel you rolling your eyes from across the kingdom. What now?” Collette didn’t look up from the petite foot she’d just fitted with a slipper of pale blue glass, but her lips crinkled at the edges.

Their Godchild’s hands bunched around her glittering skirts, holding them up so Collette could work without the fabric interfering. The gown’s bodice dripped with intricate lace that billowed out to form off-the-shoulder sleeves and a sweetheart neckline emphasizing the girl’s elegant collarbone and creamy skin.

But those shoes…

“Don’t you think glass is a bit…overdone?” Isabelle finally asked.

Collette sighed and stood. Her black locs, wrapped with strands of gold, swung loose. With an elegant flick of her soil-black wrist, she shoved one aside, so it fell behind her simple A-line dress.

“If you could make them out of anything, what would it be?” Collette lifted her right eyebrow.

Until Isabelle had been ripped out of her old life to be carted off to Godmother school, her deepest wish had been to design shoes of her own one day. But a Godmother couldn’t have wishes like that. A Godmother couldn’t have any wishes at all.
