Pitch:
THAT WEEKEND x MONDAY'S NOT COMING
When two sisters explore a mountain together, only one returns. Grace can't remember how her sister disappeared, and she wishes everyone would believe her—even the police think she’s lying. But it’s hard to look innocent with a missing girl’s blood on your clothes. Grace’s sister is out there somewhere, and unless Grace figures out what happened, she'll lose more than her sister. She’ll lose herself.
Excerpt:
My face stares up at me from the missing person’s poster. Extinguished candles line the sidewalk at my feet in front of the school, along with photos, notes, a few teddy bears, and a blue and gold volleyball. The pictures show a happy Grace, one who laughs and charms and lives up to her name. Nothing like the Grace I am now.
I might normally stop to wonder who brought the teddy bears—I turned eighteen in August, not eight—but I’m too focused on seeing my own name printed under the faded, red MISSING at the top of the page: Grace Stoll. It’s like looking at someone else, not myself. Whoever printed the poster cropped our team photo. In it, I’m wearing my volleyball uniform with perfectly straight brown hair and a shiny smile.
I almost forgot what I looked like smiling, or without the black eye or the scratch down my cheek. Although, the bruising around my eye is mostly a nasty shade of green now instead of black and purple. That girl in the picture, the me from the fall, is not the same girl I’ve seen in the mirror this last week. She’s not the girl discharged from the hospital this afternoon. I doubt I’ll ever be that girl again.
