Pitch:
Dr. Lucas Monroe needs money for his sister’s medical care, so when Nicolas Park, a washed-up boybander on the verge of a comeback, ends up in his ER, he agrees to join the grumpy workaholic’s team as his tour doctor. Amid the chaos of a multi-city stadium tour, Nicolas and Lucas find refuge in late night dinners. But when the world assumes their emerging friendship is more, they must choose between following their dreams, or chasing a new one, together.
Excerpt:
The rhythmic bass thumping from the stadium’s speakers formed a backbone to Nicholas Park’s crisp footwork. He performed the dance with precision, music and muscle merging until the song’s catchy lyrics about the perfect man captivated the audience. Cheers reverberated from the rafters down to center stage. Rattling the bones in his ribcage. He slowed to wink at the camera, carefully hiding any fatigue.
His smile couldn’t falter now. Tonight’s tour opener in Houston was paramount. Sure, the new single was a bona fide hit. The album was selling well too. But accolades wouldn’t last unless he killed this performance. Killed the whole damn tour. On the internet, where reputations were made, tonight was more than a concert. It could be the start of Nicholas Park: pop music’s summer It Boy.
If everything went perfectly.
He struck the final pose, fingers splayed across his face, his other hand gripping his shoulder. Cannons shot confetti and smoke into the air, a flashy rainbow-colored snowfall to end tonight’s extravaganza. But as he bowed, the entire world suddenly dipped beneath his feet. With each shaky footstep, his flawless performance stumbled out of reach. Steadying himself, he scrambled to say goodnight with a wobbly, two-handed wave. Then blew several kisses to fans in the cheap seats.
Smiling, smiling, smiling.
Grateful, boyish smiles.
As rehearsed.
