Pitch:

TRAIL OF LIGHTNING meets THE WICKED + THE DIVINE

Bound to the goddess Artemis by fate but devoted to her by choice, Alex must risk all she knows to protect them both from Artemis’s hell-raising aunt and deceitful father. While Artemis battles gods of pantheons the world over to maintain order, Alex’s future is thrown into jeopardy as she begins to manifest powers of her own, tied to her Cherokee heritage. Their love—if Artemis is willing to accept it—might be the key to saving the world, or the thing that causes it to burn.

Excerpt:

My computer lets out a gentle ping, drawing my eye away from the pages of my current read. Down in the bottom right corner of the screen, a B.L.I.S.S. notification is blinking back at me.

ORSON: Alex, check this out!

There’s a link, which I click to open, even though Orson’s message sounds like a total scam. The B.L.I.S.S. Network aesthetically looks like Windows 95, but it’s got security protocols that world governments would salivate over, if they knew about its existence. Which means there’s little chance of Orson, who is sitting across the room from me at his own desk, successfully infiltrating my login.

My screen fills with a news story, and I take half a minute to soak in what I’m seeing. Keywords stick out to me, my mind already churning with the potential implications.

Treaty termination. Acts of aggression. Threatened annexation. Active hostage situation.

One eyebrow inches ever upward as I read, surprised as I am that tensions have escalated so far, and so quickly.  How this conflict plays out could easily set the eastern European stage for war. It has “family feud” written all over it. Which Slavic deities are stirring up trouble now?

My thoughts are interrupted by another B.L.I.S.S. ping.

Congrats on making it through the editing rounds with your mentor! I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to check out everyones showcase samples. Based on what I’ve read so far, I’d love to see more. Please query me at this link (QueryMe.online/QueryQuressa/PW20192020) and follow the directions. If more than one NLA agent requests work from you it is okay to query more than one of us, just give us a heads-up. Good luck!

You didn’t have to say more than Trail of Lightning to get me on board! This sounds right down my alley of everything I love! I would love to see the full manuscript of this! If you think we might make a good team, please submit your full manuscript using this link: QueryMe.online/kerstinwolf/Pitch_Wars

Hello! My name is Emmy Nordstrom-Higdon, and I am an agent in training with The Rights Factory! I just started building my list, and I’m so lucky to have Sam Hiyate as my mentor. If we end up working together, you’ll get the best of both worlds – the wisdom of an agent with 16 years in the biz, and my enthusiasm and attention as a new agent with just a handful of select clients so far. Part of why your manuscript caught my eye is because I am queer, and I am a big fan of The Wicked + The Divine. I also think that this is a great moment for Indigenous lit, and I am super keen to amplify rad #OwnVoices Indigenous stories. I am thrilled to request a partial of your first three chapters from you, which you can send to assistant@therightsfactory.com. Please include a query letter and write PITCH WARS in the subject line. In the meantime, you can check out my bio and what I’m most interested in at https://www.therightsfactory.com/about-us, and my blog at http://www.booksbeyondbinaries.blog, if you want to know a little more about me. Really hoping to hear from you soon, and congratulations on participating in Pitch Wars!!
