Pitch:

A BROTHERS GRIMM meets NEVERMOOR musical adventure.

11 year-old Min discovers he is a Piper when he plays a melody that puts everyone at his military school into a magical nap. But he’s not just a Piper–he is Pied–Pipers who are vilified in the Piper world, and targeted by wild wolves. His best chance of protection? Getting accepted into an exclusive Piper Academy. He’s forced to hide his pied identity while mastering his new powers in a series of trials.

Excerpt:

Min H. Wickford is the kind of child that stayed in trouble; due to no cause of his own, in case you were wondering.

Just this morning, he already ran ten laps around the school for not saluting his commanding officer straight after waking up. He did fifty rope climbs for not having his bed dressings pulled tight enough for a penny to pop off of them. And the crease of his pants was not sharp enough to cut something, which led to him missing his morning breakfast as he straightened them out.

Now, right this moment, while marching at attention in his military school parade, he had to break form more than once to dodge several flying objects from the air, which made his commanding officer turn blue in the face with rage. If it weren’t for all the parents there, Min was sure he would explode blueberry ooze and force him to clean it all up. But the birds, not caring about Min’s blue commanding officer at all, kept pelting gifts at him.

Tiny gifts of candy.

Now, you may think that getting candy hurled at him, by birds of all things, would be strange to Min, but strange things always happened on his birthday…

    Dear Avione,
I love the concept of a Pied Piper reboot, and I’m always fascinated by military school settings, so this excerpt got me on two levels. I would be happy to look at the full manuscript. If you’d like to share it with me, please send to jmatt[@]andreabrownlit.com via email attachment, with subject line that includes the phrase Pitch Wars Request.

Note, if one of my colleagues at Andrea Brown Literary Agency has also requested the manuscript, please choose just one of us, but note the other requester in your submission.

Thanks very much, and best of luck with all!

    Sincerely,
