Pitch:

Chase is the popular kid. Malik, not so much. When their dads enter an age-reversing machine and morph into tweens, they're forced to team up. To restore their fathers' adulthood, Chase and Malik must decipher a 200-year-old journal and uncover an age-altering element. They team with Desha, an eyebrow raising survivalist. But emotional upheaval from their dad tagalongs and betrayal from an unexpected foe thwarts their plans. To change their dads back before it's too late, Chase and Malik must discover they’re stronger together than they are apart. NEW KID x 17 Again.

Excerpt:

As far as best friends go, Chase had one, his dad.

Now, don’t get it twisted. His mom was great, too, borderline perfect. But they didn’t spend nearly as much time together. And since tonight was Chase’s twelfth birthday, there was zero doubt his dad would deliver. So, when his father plopped a dusty black journal on the bathroom counter, Chase’s stomach tanked. Books were for school, not birthdays.

Chase pursed his lips, but the teeth suck that itched to follow, smartly stayed put. There was zero reason for his disappointment to escalate into soul-crushing chores. He’d done his part to earn a gift more epic. Last weekend, he cleaned the garage and volunteered to donate the bike he’d outgrown. Ahem, major hint. If a new bike was too expensive, a video game was a cheap no-brainer, and nothing topped crisp twenties.

“Relax.” His father chuckled.

Chase straightened his lips. Maybe the all-you-got-was-a-dusty-book act was a joke. He spat toothpaste into the sink, willing to play along. “Is it a pirate’s journal with logs of stolen booty?”

“No pirates and definitely no booty.” His dad smirked. “Mom would kill me.”

Minty foam singed Chase’s nose. Usually, his dad’s jokes were corny, but that one screamed potential.
