Pitch:
Maggie’s determined to prove she can handle the heat of the family coffee business—but trouble brews when a trendy espresso bar opens across the street, managed by arrogant (and inconveniently sexy) hipster Seth. When their rivalry boils into undeniable chemistry, letting their guards down means risking their jobs, families, and hearts. A PNW rivals-to-lovers romance perfect for fans of The Ex Talk and Simmer Down.
Excerpt:
Fine, I’ll be the one to say it—pumpkin spice is better than sex.
For the record, I’m not saying the sex I’ve had was bad, but I need to emphasize how serious I am about pumpkin spice. It was love at first sip. Nothing makes me swoon harder than the sweet, spicy perfection of the best drink ever invented. Bonus points if there’s a nice fall chill in the air.
Just wrap me up in flannel and stick me in a pile of leaves.
Naturally, the first Monday in September is the best day of the year, because it means seasonal drinks have returned to Brew it Again. There’s a bright-eyed joy in the shop laced with cinnamon and cardamon. People smile as they wait in line, chatting and shrugging off their dripping North Face jackets. The rain-soaked Spokane streets feel like a good omen today: it’s like the universe is bringing me autumn a few weeks early.
Before joining my employees behind the counter, I take another rich sip of my own pumpkin latte, savoring the pleasure spreading down to my toes.
Years ago, when my parents opened our first store, I became smitten with the near-manic hustle of a café in the morning. Buzzed on a blend of adrenaline and caffeine, I pull shot after shot with a grin. We’re all in sync, running as smoothly as this well-calibrated espresso machine.
I would love you to submit your Pitch Wars entry to me, using my Query Manager form: QueryManager.com/Amanda_Rutter/PitchWars
Please send through the query letter and the full manuscript.

Dear Jessica,
Your opening excerpt immediately drew me into HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT, and you have a compelling premise. Please do send me the first 50 pages, and I look forward to reading further. My email is atuttle@dystel.com, and please note that this is a Pitch Wars request. Also, if you receive a request from more than one DGB agent, please approach the agent you feel might be the best fit and notify us of other requests in the agency. We’ll work it out on our end. I wish you success in Pitch Wars and with your writing and will hope to hear from you.
Best,
Ann Leslie Tuttle
