In one moment—plummeting off an overpass, about to die—boarding school golden girl Brett unleashes extraordinary power that upends everything. Forced to enlist the help of her beautiful, arrogant enemy and a Breakfast Club of misfits, she races to uncover who or what she is before a dangerous hunter finds her—before her perfect life, held together by lies, crumbles. Their search takes them through illicit genetics labs, magic homecoming parties, corporate break-ins, social club wars—and straight into mortal danger.

Excerpt:

The night of Sunrise, in the dark belly of a warehouse—exact hour lost to the crush of music, the dizzying heat of dancing bodies—I remembered, like waking from a dream. It happened just before the bass dropped, as the room held its collective breath. Into that sliver of expectant silence, the bells of All Saints tolled, distant but clear. Calling me back with a sharp reminder: You’re different. Don’t misstep.

On the dance floor, Ivy Club girls encircled London, all of them beautiful and glossy under the lights. They showed no signs of leaving. Safe to say the stakes of tomorrow’s test were nowhere near as high for them.

I ducked out. Velvety silence swallowed the noise of the party.

I should feel bad for lying to my friends about who I was and where I came from. But the truth was, every lie they bought was a victory.

Right on time, Harcourt’s student shuttle arrived, headlights sweeping. I climbed in, slid into a seat. I’d won entry to their shining circle, the golden students who ruled Harcourt. Even though every minute was time I borrowed through my scholarship, a charity extended as long as I showed I was one of the good ones. Straight As, flawless behavior.

One misstep, and it was back to Carthage.
