Pitch:
UNDEAD GIRL GANG meets FRANKENSTEIN
In a secluded town full of monsters and family expectations, Olive, a plus-sized reanimated corpse, must bring back her dead father to gain body autonomy. But when she tricks her witch BFF and the new ghost girl into a forbidden road-trip to find answers, she learns if she wants free will, she’ll have to stand on her own mismatched two feet.
Excerpt:
The weight of the morning settled on Olive’s shoulders as she tugged on a too-snug t-shirt, immediately peeling it off to toss onto a pile of clothes. First day back at school in her new body, six months since her latest surgery, she had nothing to wear. She rummaged through her closet for something big enough, something that said this was the body of a mature young woman.
Something to finally get Ethan Sherwood’s attention.
Olive tried on a dress that always fell unflatteringly on her old straight frame, hoping her new curves would fill it out. But the yellow brought out an almost sickly green in her skin and she quickly discarded it. It was bad enough to be pale and patchwork, she didn’t need to make it more obvious parts of her used to be dead.
Her hunt stopped at her father’s maroon flannel shirt. She paused, her fingers brushing the worn hem of the sleeve. Isaac should be here singing his silly first-day songs down the hallway. Isaac should be here giving advice on what to wear, combing her hair back, giving her the biggest hugs. Olive gathered the fabric to her face to catch her breath, pushing away that sinking, swelling, drowning feeling. No, she had a mission now. She wasn’t sure how, but she knew she had to bring back Isaac from the grave, one way or another.
